Dearest Tribe Members- I found this artwork and I had to share it with you. It shows Yeshua/Jesus Christ protecting the lamb, which represents his believers, from the predatory wolves. I see the teeth and the fierce eyes of the pack drawing in for the kill, but my attention is drawn to His face. Our Savior’s eyes are determined, His body language shows confidence, and His shepherd’s staff is commanding. As I scan the artwork my eyes stay on Him and the wolves seem to disappear into the picture. I barely see the danger anymore, I just see Him. “The righteous cry out, and the LORD hears them; He delivers them from all their troubles.” – Psalm 34:17, NIV “Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.” – Jeremiah 33:3, NKJV Many people would look at the the wolves coming in for the kill, and see they clearly outnumber Yeshua and the lamb. That many wolves can easily kill a man. In this secular worldview the odds are against them. But God. He has warned us about this world we live in and has given us instructions in the Word. He has told us not to fear over 365 times in the Bible. Even science classes teach about the danger of fear. Did you know that pheromones of fear can actually be smelled by predators and can incite them to attack? I learned this in my herpetology (study of reptiles and amphibians) class in college. We took a field trip to the Kentucky mountains and we were tracking timber rattlesnakes that were tagged with radio transmitters. It was a hot, muggy day and it was my turn to hold the receiver. I heard the beeps on the receiver getting louder and more frequent. As I turned to my professor to tell him we were close, I heard several people scream “Carrie stop!” I froze in my tracks with my right leg raised about a foot and a half in the air. A few inches in front of my foot was a coiled timber rattler, with his jaw open and fangs ready to strike into my bare leg. My classmates backed away, and my professor advised me to stay calm and show no fear, as this is the pheromone the snakes use to strike. Of course I immediately started praying and asking Jesus for help. The rattle of the snake tail increased and I began to sweat. My professor yelled to me that I had to back away slowly as the snake wouldn’t move except to strike. I took a deep breath as I kept my mind on God. Everything around me faded away as I focused on being calm and moved slowly. One step back and another. One more step and I was clear from the rattlesnake. An incredible rush of relief came over me! I truly believe that I would have been bitten if my response was different- if I was fearful and panicked. In these times we may not have the physical snakes and wolves around us but we have the metaphorical ones. How we are affected by them depends on our reactions and our mindset. In the current world of deceit and chaos, we need to keep our eyes on Him. Reading the Word, praying, and being still with Him bring me back to center. “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you.
